Carmel

January 25, 2015

The OCDS Community in Amsterdam, NY, held its annual Prolife brunch at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. There was an excellent presentation on Catholic teaching on end-of-life issues, and a  review of 30-years of the prolife movement in the area. The highlight of the day was its beginning — Holy Mass with Bishop Edward Scharfenberger.

My birthday into Carmel when I received the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This is the secular “habit.” Other than at meetings and liturgies, it is worn “hidden” under the clothes. See more photos in the post “A Carmelite!” Click for it on the home page.

SPRING 2014

An activity of Our Lady of Mercy Community of the Secular Carmelites (OCDS) of Schenectady, where I am in formation, is tending the graves of the Carmelite Sisters interred in Holy Cross Cemetery, and offering graveside prayers on All Souls Day.

In honoring Memorial Day, several of us mulched, planted, and watered at the Crucifixion monument that marks the Sisters’ resting place.   The many hands made light work, as did the enjoyable fellowship together. We ended with prayers for the Sisters and for our country.

Praised be Jesus Christ. Now and forever!

Thank you Beth, for posting the pictures of the Carmelite Sisters Grave…. They deserve the honor that the secular community (Our Lady Of Mercy), are giving them, by the maintainance of their graves, and as you stated, our prayers…..The Carmelite Monastery is no longer here in Schenectady,NY, they moved several years ago to Pittsord,NY…
